Dimensions of Normativity: New Essays on Metaethics and Jurisprudence

There is a conspicuous gulf in contemporary philosophy between metaethical theorizing on the one hand, and debates in general jurisprudence on the other.

Based on these and similar considerations, we think that philosophers specializing in the two subfields could learn much from widening their gaze. In short, we think that the connections between metaethics and general jurisprudence are deep and likely to provide fertile grounds for innovative new work.

But our impression is that general jurisprudence has been more prone to philosophical autarchy than metaethics for much of the last several decades, and more tightly bound to discussion and interpretation of canonical works in the subfield itself.
